Europe releases 42M barrels of emergency oil stocks over three months, half of it diesel

French Economy Minister Roland Lescure announced the plan, saying it aims to bring down fuel prices before winter. The release runs at about 460,000 barrels per day, including 230,000 bpd of diesel, and France alone will put 10 million barrels of diesel on the market in the coming days. It is part of a G7 deal to release up to 100 million barrels over four months under the IEA's 400-million-barrel coordinated release. Middle Eastern refinery damage and Russian export limits have cut diesel supply, and European diesel futures topped $200 per barrel in September.

Alice & Bob says 29,588 qubits could break Bitcoin keys, 17x fewer than Google's estimate

Google's March 2026 estimate put the requirement at under 500,000 physical qubits. The Alice & Bob model would take about 62 minutes per key, against nine minutes in Google's model, which is slower than Bitcoin's 10-minute average block time. That still leaves coins at addresses with exposed public keys at risk, and more than 6 million BTC sit at such addresses. The two studies use different hardware designs, and the findings are theoretical.
