This EU spot-platform comparison covers Kraken, Coinbase, Bitstamp, OKX, Bybit EU, Bitpanda, Crypto.com and Bitvavo. It matches product routes to the service entities in our dated MiCA register review, then compares fees, funding and withdrawals.
This comparison covers Kraken, Coinbase, Bitstamp, OKX, Bybit EU, Bitpanda, Crypto.com and Bitvavo. Relevant service entities appear in the ESMA MiCA register downloaded on October 13, 2026, from a register page showing an October 7 update. Their matched records contained no authorisation-end date.
The scope is EU crypto-asset spot services. It includes order-book and broker-style platforms, rather than pretending every listed entity operates the same kind of exchange. MiCA authorisation doesn't automatically cover a brand's global derivatives, event contracts or other financial products.
Referral disclosure: W3Match may earn a commission or other reward from the referral buttons below. Platform inclusion depends on the evidence and product fit, not the commission rate. Promotions, account eligibility and country access must match the actual EU offer.
How this shortlist was selected
The eight brands were selected for a matched active service-entity record, a consumer spot route and accessible official product or program documentation. This is an editorial shortlist, not a measured ranking of all European providers. No funded execution test or commission-based scoring was used.
| Your starting need | Routes worth comparing | What decides the choice |
|---|---|---|
| Order-book spot trading | Kraken Pro, Coinbase Advanced, OKX EU, Bitvavo | Executable quote, pair category, tier and withdrawal cost |
| A simpler purchase quote | Bitpanda and app-based buying routes | Crypto received for the same euro input, including spread |
| Existing Bitstamp account | Bitstamp Europe | Phased retail interface transition and account-specific notice |
| Regional onboarding or a specific ecosystem | Bybit EU or Crypto.com EU route | Actual available product, counterparty and country terms |
Start with the entity serving your EU account
Authorization, account availability and the product you can trade are separate checks.
The entities behind the brands
| Brand | Relevant entity in the reviewed register | Home state / authority |
|---|---|---|
| Kraken | Payward Global Solutions Limited; Payward Europe Solutions Limited | Ireland / Central Bank of Ireland |
| Coinbase | Coinbase Luxembourg S.A. | Luxembourg / CSSF |
| Bitstamp | Bitstamp Europe S.A. | Luxembourg / CSSF |
| OKX | OKX Europe Limited | Malta / MFSA |
| Bybit EU | Bybit EU GmbH | Austria / FMA |
| Bitpanda | Bitpanda GmbH, with other group entities also listed | Austria / FMA for this entity |
| Crypto.com | Foris DAX MT Limited | Malta / MFSA |
| Bitvavo | Bitvavo B.V. | Netherlands / AFM |
The saved register includes their service scopes and dates. A CASP permission to execute or exchange assets isn't the same service permission as operating a trading platform. Compare your contractual counterparty and product, not a group-wide badge. ESMA MiCA register.
UK and Swiss access require their own analysis. They shouldn't be swept into “EU regulated” because they are geographically in Europe. This shortlist doesn't establish individual eligibility or a licence for every asset on each brand's global website.
1. Kraken: separate Pro from instant buying
Kraken / REFERRALKrakenChoose between a simple buying quote and Kraken Pro.Pro offers an order-book route. Instant buying has separate fee and spread treatment.Pawnie’s referral linkThis is a general referral link. Confirm the regional service entity and offer eligibility before signing up.
Kraken product facts
| Field | Detail |
|---|---|
| Reviewed order-book tier | Kraken Pro entry spot tier: 0.40% maker / 0.80% taker |
| Instant route | Published 1% instant/recurring trading charge and 1.5% custom-order charge before relevant membership treatment |
| Spread | Instant buying includes a spread; a fee waiver does not necessarily remove it |
| Kraken+ scope | The displayed monthly allowance concerns Buy/Sell/Convert, not Kraken Pro spot, API or futures |
| Funding/withdrawals | Method- and asset-specific charges; confirm the final transaction screen |
| Authorisation/notification date | June 25, 2025 in the saved October 13 ESMA register, for Payward Global Solutions Limited |
A hypothetical EUR1,000 eligible taker fill at 0.80% has an EUR8 trading fee, before funding or withdrawal. The instant route cannot be compared by multiplying that same rate: it has its own fee and spread. The example isolates one charge, not the final amount of crypto received.
That makes Kraken a useful comparison for users wanting an order-book account alongside a simpler buying interface. Compare the exact route before assuming a cheaper-looking subscription offer applies to all transactions.
The register distinguishes its trading-platform entity from another entity providing other crypto services. Its account disclosures should identify which relationship serves the user. Referral and affiliate programs have separate conditions. Affiliate program.
2. Coinbase: the account's execution route matters
Coinbase / REFERRALCoinbaseTrade through Coinbase Advanced’s order book.Resting and immediately filled portions can receive different fees. Check your account’s current tier.Pawnie’s referral linkThis is a general referral link. Confirm the regional service entity and offer eligibility before signing up.
Coinbase product facts
| Field | Detail |
|---|---|
| Advanced execution | Resting and immediately matched portions can have different maker/taker fees |
| Tier timing | The tier at the time of the order determines the fee |
| Qualification | The current help page describes volume or USDC-balance criteria, whichever is more favourable |
| Separate schedules | Stablecoin pairs and product classes can use separate requirements |
| Full quote | The order preview displays the applicable Advanced fees |
| Authorisation/notification date | June 20, 2025 in the saved October 13 ESMA register, for Coinbase Luxembourg S.A. |
Advanced order and tier rules.
A limit order does not guarantee a maker fee. If part fills immediately and part rests, the immediate part can pay taker fees while the resting part later pays maker fees. This is a concrete reason an account’s actual fee statement can differ from a comparison’s maker-rate column.
Coinbase's MiCA help page identifies Coinbase Luxembourg and explains service changes and execution arrangements. It notes that trades may be fulfilled outside an EU trading venue under its execution policy. EU service authorisation and the location of an underlying execution venue are different facts. Coinbase MiCA information.
For cost, compare the simple buying quote with Advanced trading. Advanced fees depend on the account's tier and other applicable conditions, so a familiar fee copied from an old comparison isn't a guaranteed current quote. Advanced fees.
Coinbase has a public affiliate program, but the publisher's program acceptance and country rules still need confirmation. The selected link must lead to the correct eligible account route. Affiliate program.
3. Bitstamp: a phased retail interface transition
Bitstamp product facts
| Field | Detail |
|---|---|
| Reviewed EU counterparty | Bitstamp Europe S.A., Luxembourg |
| Affected workflow | Selected EEA/Swiss retail accounts are being invited into a Robinhood-app access route |
| Announced start | October 15, 2026, with phased invitations |
| Account continuity | The announced account-access change does not itself replace Bitstamp Europe as counterparty |
| Different audiences | The described retail transition does not apply identically to institutional accounts |
| Authorisation/notification date | May 15, 2025 in the saved October 13 ESMA register, for Bitstamp Europe S.A. |
Official account-access update.
For an existing user, the account notice and supported app route are more actionable than a historical interface screenshot. For a new reader, verify current new-account eligibility separately. The date of a rollout announcement is not proof that every retail account was moved on that day.
That detail is more useful than calling the interface unchanged or saying all accounts move to a Robinhood legal entity. A user needs to know which app will manage the services and which company remains the counterparty.
Check the current product, supported account workflow and referral eligibility before choosing it for a new signup. A historical affiliate link may need review during an interface transition. Existing-account access and new-account eligibility aren't interchangeable.
4. OKX: use the European product's schedule
OKX product and account checks
| Field | Detail |
|---|---|
| Relevant entity | OKX Europe Limited in the reviewed Malta record |
| Pricing source | The Europe fee page, rather than a global futures campaign |
| Market check | Asset and product availability must match the EU account |
| Offer check | Global code availability does not establish EU promotional eligibility |
| Registry scope | Match the service permission to the activity you intend to use |
| Authorisation/notification date | January 27, 2025 in the saved October 13 ESMA register, for OKX Europe Limited |
European fee schedule, European authorisation information.
This review did not establish one entry rate applicable to every EU account. Use the regional schedule and the rate shown for your account; a global futures rate is a different comparison.
For an active spot trader, inspect the available order book, supported assets and current EU fee page. The global brand's product menu doesn't establish access to every feature for an EU account. OKX EU fees.
The same applies to referrals. A global code's existence doesn't prove that it gives an EU reader the advertised benefit. Confirm that the link opens the European product and that its current offer serves your country.
5. Bybit EU: keep it separate from Bybit global
Bybit EU product facts
| Field | Detail |
|---|---|
| EU service entity | Bybit EU GmbH, Austria |
| Correct product route | bybit.eu, separate from Bybit’s global account route |
| Program source | The EU-specific referral FAQ |
| Possible qualification factors | The offer can depend on eligible deposit, trading and time-window requirements |
| Global derivatives | Not attributed to the EU CASP record by this comparison |
| Authorisation/notification date | May 28, 2025 in the saved October 13 ESMA register, for Bybit EU GmbH |
Bybit EU and a global Bybit account are different customer routes. Confirm the EU entity in the service terms and use the product-specific offer conditions rather than a promotion for another account.
The EU referral FAQ is published specifically for Bybit EU and labels the communication under MiCAR. That is the appropriate source for the EU offer, rather than a global bonus page. Requirements can involve qualifying deposits, trading and time limits. EU referral FAQ.
The comparison here doesn't attribute global leveraged products to that CASP record. A spot account and a derivatives account can have different permissions and counterparties even within one brand group.
6. Bitpanda: a broker-style route belongs in the comparison
Bitpanda product facts
| Field | Detail |
|---|---|
| Buying model | Broker-style quote; compare crypto received rather than an invented maker/taker rate |
| Fiat methods | The limits page distinguishes card, online-payment and SEPA methods |
| Limit basis | Verification status and selected payment/payout method |
| Minimum purchase example | The reviewed limits page lists a EUR1 minimum purchase/sale, with currency equivalents |
| Crypto transfers | Asset/network-specific deposit and withdrawal minimums and charges |
| Authorisation/notification date | April 09, 2025 in the saved October 13 ESMA register, for Bitpanda GmbH |
Payment methods, minimums and limits.
A payment limit is not a promise that every transaction will be accepted at that size. Regulatory checks can impose additional conditions. For a small purchase followed by a withdrawal, the asset’s minimum withdrawal and fixed network charge may matter more than a small difference in the purchase quote.
Bitpanda GmbH appears under Austria's FMA, with other Bitpanda group entities in the reviewed register as well. The entity shown in a particular user's terms matters more than selecting whichever group licence looks most convenient.
Its broker-style buying experience is a different comparison from submitting orders to a central limit order book. Inspect the total purchase quote and applicable cost-transparency document. Don't assign a maker/taker number to a product that prices the transaction another way.
Bitpanda describes both a tell-a-friend offer and a separate affiliate program. Their qualification rules and economics differ, so use the link from the program actually intended for the article. Tell-a-friend, affiliate program.
7. Crypto.com: the app and exchange aren't one fee table
Crypto.com product and account checks
| Field | Detail |
|---|---|
| Reviewed CASP entity | Foris DAX MT Limited |
| Interface separation | App purchase and exchange order-book routes need separate pricing checks |
| Entity boundary | The wider brand’s services are not all assigned to this one CASP record |
| Offer boundary | Card, app and exchange referrals can have different eligibility |
| Comparison unit | Use the actual fiat input, crypto received and supported exit/withdrawal route |
| Authorisation/notification date | January 27, 2025 in the saved October 13 ESMA register, for Foris DAX MT Limited |
Entity and conflict disclosure.
Treating all Crypto.com activity as one trading account hides the route a reader actually buys through. The relevant evidence is the service contract and quote for that route, not the group brand or a bonus offered for another product.
A purchase quote in the app and an order-book exchange fill can use different pricing. The best comparison asks which EU service the customer uses, who fulfills the transaction and what the full conversion/withdrawal route costs.
Use the offer for the exact EU service. A card, exchange or app referral offer shouldn't be advertised as a universal trading-fee reduction across all products. Verify the owner's program and the reader's country before naming a benefit.
8. Bitvavo: inspect the pair category
Bitvavo product facts
| Field | Detail |
|---|---|
| Relevant entity | Bitvavo B.V., Netherlands |
| Category A baseline | 0.15% maker / 0.25% taker at the reviewed entry tier |
| Pair-category boundary | Category A does not describe every stablecoin or EUR pair |
| Bank-funding comparison | SEPA funding is priced separately from alternative payment methods |
| Exit cost | Asset/network withdrawal conditions require their own check |
| Authorisation/notification date | June 26, 2025 in the saved October 13 ESMA register, for Bitvavo B.V. |
Pair categories and funding fees.
A hypothetical EUR1,000 Category A taker fill at 0.25% has an EUR2.50 trading fee. That is an example of one pair category and tier, not a promise that every purchase on Bitvavo costs EUR2.50 or that it is always the cheapest complete funding-and-withdrawal route.
For a euro-based spot workflow, inspect the actual pair category, quote and bank-funding method. The fee page describes SEPA transfers separately from other deposit services. A cheap funding route can matter as much as a trading-rate difference for a small purchase.
Bitvavo publishes an affiliate application route. Affiliate accounts and normal trading accounts have different functions, so the publisher needs the appropriate partner setup. Affiliate program.
Compare the price of the complete purchase
Use the same euro input, asset and funding method. For an order book, specify maker or taker and the account tier. For a broker quote, compare the amount of crypto received after all included costs.
Then price the exit or withdrawal. An asset can be cheap to buy while its withdrawal route adds a meaningful cost. A bank or payment service can also charge outside the platform's headline fee.
The registry check answers an authorisation question. It doesn't insure your investment against a market loss, establish every token as approved or make every global product available. For leverage, use the perp DEX comparison and inspect the separate product rules. For event contracts, use the prediction-market comparison.
Check the entity again before opening the account
Open the official regional route and read the counterparty in the terms. Match that entity to the current regulator record, including service scope and any effective end date. Then confirm that the actual product serves your country.
That gives the comparison a stronger foundation than a generic “legal in Europe” label. The saved October register is a dated research record; the account you open should match the live terms in front of you.
Questions this comparison answers
Does a MiCA licence cover every product on a global exchange website?
No. The comparison matches named crypto-service entities and their service scope. Global derivatives, securities and other financial products require their own permissions and user-eligibility checks.
Are bank deposits and card purchases the same cost comparison?
No. Payment charges, instant-buy spreads and withdrawal conditions can differ. Compare the crypto received for the same fiat input and include the planned exit, rather than ranking unrelated headline rates.
Research scope and dates
Product fact tables and additional operational details reviewed October 15, 2026. Earlier regulatory snapshots and saved referral observations retain the dates stated beside them. The comparison uses primary documentation, not a funded execution test; a missing verified value is left unassigned rather than inferred from another platform.
A cheaper fill can leave fewer coins after withdrawal
Consider two fictional routes buying a token priced at EUR100 with EUR1,000. Route A charges 0.80% to trade, leaving 9.92 tokens, then deducts a 0.01-token withdrawal charge: 9.91 arrive. Route B charges 0.25%, leaving 9.975 tokens, then deducts 0.10 token: 9.875 arrive.
These are hypothetical charges and do not identify the platforms above. They hold the price constant and exclude other costs. Their purpose is to compare the amount reaching the wallet when withdrawal is part of the plan. For a user keeping assets on-platform, a different comparison applies, including the custody arrangement.
