# RWA Daily: a bank-issued cash leg reaches Securitize before its usage can be measured

Anchorage Digital Bank and Securitize announced direct minting and redemption for stablecoins issued by Anchorage. The integration joins issuance, custody and settlement in one regulated-bank workflow. The announcement is an infrastructure change, not evidence that tokenized funds are already settling at scale in those stablecoins. No mint, redemption, client or fund-level volume was disclosed. The useful next datapoint is a named Securitize fund using the rail, together with a dated issuance or redemption total.

- The announcement is an infrastructure change, not evidence that tokenized funds are already settling at scale in those stablecoins. No mint, redemption, client or fund-level volume was disclosed.
- The useful next datapoint is a named Securitize fund using the rail, together with a dated issuance or redemption total.

## The main development

[Anchorage Digital's announcement](https://www.anchorage.com/press-room/anchorage-digital-brings-federally-issued-stablecoins-to-securitize-the-worlds-largest-tokenization-platform) says that Securitize clients can mint and redeem stablecoins issued by Anchorage Digital Bank N.A. directly through the tokenization platform. Anchorage also provides custody and settlement. The stated change is narrower than a new tokenized fund or a new public stablecoin: it connects the cash side of an existing tokenization venue to a federally chartered bank's issuance and custody workflow.

That distinction is the point. Tokenized funds need a cash leg for subscriptions, redemptions and transfers between eligible counterparties. If a client must move from a fund platform to an external issuer, then back through a separate custodian or settlement provider, each handoff adds operational work and reconciliation. Direct minting and redemption can reduce those handoffs. It does not remove fund eligibility rules, investor verification, sanctions controls, custody choices or the legal terms governing the fund itself.

Anchorage says Securitize has more than $4 billion of assets on its platform. That is a platform-wide, issuer-reported figure, not the value of assets using Anchorage-issued stablecoins and not a secondary-market liquidity measure. The announcement does not provide the adoption metric that would make this a market-volume story: a named fund, a client count, an issued balance or a settlement total.

This is also why the integration should not be described as a liquidity event. Minting and redemption are issuer-facing processes. They can improve the creation and retirement of cash tokens without creating a continuous two-sided secondary market for a tokenized fund. Likewise, custody and settlement integration do not alter the redemption rights, dealing frequency or transfer restrictions of a represented asset. Those terms remain product-specific.

For Securitize, the potential benefit is a tighter institutional operating model. For Anchorage, it places a bank-issued instrument closer to fund administration and token issuance. For an investor, the benefit is conditional: it depends on whether the particular fund accepts that cash leg and on the investor's eligibility. The announcement does not say that access is open to retail users or that a new redemption path is available across all funds on the platform.

## Other developments that matter

The UK's Financial Conduct Authority has a [Call for Input on tokenised gold](https://www.fca.org.uk/publications/calls-input/call-input-tokenised-gold-opportunities-and-risk-uk-wholesale-markets) open until 23 October. The consultation asks how tokens representing rights in physical gold could be used in UK wholesale markets, including collateral and settlement. It is a policy inquiry, not a new eligible-asset category or a rule change.

That timing makes the contrast useful. Anchorage and Securitize are attempting to make a cash leg operational within an existing institutional setting. The FCA is asking what legal, ownership and insolvency questions have to be settled before a tokenized commodity can safely become a collateral instrument in another setting. In both cases, the difficult work is less about representing an asset on a ledger than about the rights and processes around it.

## What it means in practice

The immediate test is operational rather than ideological. A fund manager would need to show that a stablecoin issued by the bank can be used for a subscription or redemption, how investor eligibility is checked, when the fund's NAV is struck, and how cash is returned if a transaction fails. Each answer can differ by fund.

The stronger interpretation would require evidence that the new route reduces settlement time, reconciliation cost or failed transactions for a named workflow. The weaker interpretation is still valid: a bank and a tokenization platform have reduced a possible integration boundary. That is meaningful infrastructure progress, but it is not a substitute for reported usage.

## What to watch next

Watch for a Securitize product notice naming an Anchorage-issued stablecoin as a subscription or redemption currency, and for issuer reporting that separates direct mint and redemption volume from platform assets. Separately, the FCA's 23 October response deadline may clarify which issues market participants regard as the main barriers to using tokenized gold as collateral. Neither event guarantees a product launch or new trading activity.
