Ondo and Centrifuge bring financial assets onchain through different business relationships. Ondo offers named products such as OUSG and USDY. Centrifuge provides infrastructure for managers to create and distribute funds. Both also work beyond that distinction, so compare the exact product before choosing where to invest.
That matters if you're choosing a yield product. It matters even more if you're buying a token because you expect tokenization to grow. Those are separate decisions.
Start with what each business sells
Ondo's product range includes Treasury-related exposure and tokenized stocks. A customer normally arrives looking for a named product or market: OUSG, USDY, or a tokenized security. The decision starts with the asset the customer wants to hold.
The structures differ within that range. OUSG is a fund product for eligible investors. USDY uses a note structure. Ondo's tokenized stocks have their own terms and access rules. “An Ondo token” therefore isn't a precise enough description of what you're buying. OUSG overview, USDY basics.
Centrifuge lets managers create and distribute financial products across blockchains. Its protocol separates a coordination layer from the networks where investors interact with assets. The manager can use that infrastructure for a fund whose name, mandate and underlying investments are its own. Centrifuge protocol overview.
The distinction isn't absolute. Ondo builds infrastructure, and Centrifuge offers managed solutions through Anemoy. It is still a useful starting point: compare the issuer's product with the infrastructure relationship, rather than treating both names as interchangeable bets.
Two routes to tokenized assets
The comparison changes with the customer: an investor choosing a product or a manager building a fund.
The old private-credit label is too narrow
Some older Centrifuge explainers focus almost entirely on loans backed by real-world receivables. That history doesn't describe the full product range now displayed on its platform.
Centrifuge's investing materials cover several asset classes, including Treasury and credit exposures. Different managers and mandates sit behind those products. A product issued on Centrifuge isn't automatically a loan to the same borrower, or part of one shared credit pool. Centrifuge investing.
This changes the comparison with Ondo. Treasury products can compete for the same cash-management allocation even when their platform structures differ. A credit fund requires a different assessment: borrower exposure, duration, underwriting and loss handling become more relevant than the blockchain where its shares live.
The fair comparison is product against product. If your aim is short-duration dollar income, begin with our tokenized Treasury comparison. If you're considering credit, use the lending comparison to identify what funds the return.
Distribution can be the bigger advantage
Issuing a token doesn't guarantee that anyone can use it. The issuer needs investors, wallet support, redemption access and applications willing to integrate the asset. A manager can have a good underlying fund and still face a weak distribution channel.
Ondo's bridge is one concrete distribution tool. Its December 2025 launch announcement described cross-chain transfers for tokenized stocks and ETFs between Ethereum and BNB Chain. This extends where the assets can travel; it doesn't itself prove trading depth or adoption in every connected application. Ondo securities bridge launch.
Centrifuge's model offers managers a reusable issuance and operation system. The attraction is that a manager can concentrate on its investment product and use shared infrastructure for onchain administration. The commercial question is how well that product reaches funded investors after launch. Centrifuge manager documentation.
For either business, I would track where capital actually arrives and stays. A token appearing on another chain is useful evidence of availability. Net subscriptions, recurring use as collateral and successful redemptions give a better picture of customer demand.
Compare the friction you will face
The most useful product table begins with access. Your jurisdiction, investor status and onboarding requirements can remove an option before its yield matters. Eligibility usually belongs to the exact product, so avoid assuming that approval for one fund grants access to another.
Then compare the exit. A fund with a stated redemption service may impose transaction limits or use different processes for small and large requests. A secondary market offers another route, but its price depends on available buyers. “Tradable” and “redeemable” answer different questions.
Fees need the same care. An issuer fee, underlying fund expenses and the cost of converting stablecoins can affect the amount you keep. A temporary fee waiver should have an expiry date in your comparison. The result can change even when the headline Treasury yield stays flat.
| Your question | Ondo research path | Centrifuge research path |
|---|---|---|
| What exposure am I buying? | Exact Ondo product and its issuer | Exact fund, manager and issuer |
| Who sets the investment policy? | Product's governing documents | Manager's mandate and fund documents |
| Where can I hold or transfer it? | Supported deployments and holder restrictions | Fund deployments and permission rules |
| How do I leave? | Product's redemption and secondary-market routes | Fund's redemption schedule and liquidity terms |
| Does the project token benefit? | ONDO governance and documented economics | CFG structure and current CP172 developments |
ONDO and CFG add another layer
Buying ONDO doesn't make you a holder of OUSG or USDY. The Foundation describes ONDO as a governance token for the Ondo DAO and Flux Finance. The token documentation doesn't establish a share in all revenue generated by Ondo's financial products. ONDO token documentation.
CFG has an additional moving part. Centrifuge's CP172 materials discuss a token-to-equity restructuring, with subscription eligibility and disclosure requirements. The FAQ was updated September 29, 2026; this review doesn't establish a completed conversion. Treating CFG as a routine liquid token exposure can miss the proposed change in what holders would own and how they could exit. CP172 proposal.
I would therefore keep a business comparison and a token comparison on separate pages. A manager winning new assets tells you something about its business. To assess a token, you still need the path connecting that business to your position. Our value-capture article follows those paths.
Which comparison should you actually make?
For a user seeking income, narrow the choice to products you can access, then compare their claims, costs and redemption terms. For an asset manager, compare how each system supports issuance, operations and distribution. For a token investor, examine the token's rights and the economics that reach it.
Those questions can produce different winners. A platform can be attractive to issuers while its token has unresolved economics. A product can be useful for cash management while offering little exposure to the growth of tokenization as an industry.
The bridge between the product and its wider distribution deserves its own explanation. Read how LayerZero OFT handles supply across chains before assuming that every cross-chain deployment creates a separate asset or a separate pool of backing.
