Does Robinhood Chain have a token? ETH gas, stock tokens and memecoins explained

Robinhood Chain has no native token: gas is paid in ETH. Learn what stock tokens and memecoins are and how to spot a fake Robinhood token. Checked 2 Nov 2026.

No. Robinhood Chain has no token of its own, and every fee on it is paid in ETH. Robinhood's documentation names ETH as the native gas token. Robinhood has not announced a Robinhood Chain token or an airdrop in the official pages we checked or in news coverage up to 2 November 2026.

The confusion comes from three things that all get called a "Robinhood token": the HOOD stock, Robinhood's Stock Tokens and the memecoins launched on the chain. None of them is a network token. This guide separates them and shows how to spot a fake. Checked on 2 November 2026.

The short version

  • Gas is ETH. Fees on Robinhood Chain are denominated in ETH, the same as on Ethereum.
  • HOOD is a stock. It is the Nasdaq ticker of Robinhood Markets, not a coin.
  • Stock Tokens are debt securities. Robinhood Assets (Jersey) Limited issues them. They carry no shareholder rights and are closed to US persons.
  • Memecoins belong to whoever launched them. A Robinhood-sounding name proves nothing.

What Robinhood Chain is

Robinhood Chain is an Ethereum layer 2 built on Arbitrum technology. Its public mainnet launched on 1 July 2026. It runs separately from the Robinhood app: Robinhood's support page says it is not connected to your brokerage or crypto accounts.

A fee has two parts, according to the gas and fees page: the cost of running your transaction on the chain, and the cost of posting its data to Ethereum. Both are bundled into one gas payment in ETH.

Today the order of transactions follows arrival time, and the docs say a higher fee will not move you ahead in the queue. On 9 October, CoinDesk reported, citing one anonymous source, that Robinhood Chain is evaluating Arbitrum's Priority Gas Auctions, which let traders pay for priority. Robinhood declined to comment and has announced no decision.

Stock Tokens are not the chain's coin

Stock Tokens are tokenised debt securities. They give economic exposure to US shares and ETFs, but no legal or beneficial rights in or against the issuer of those securities. Robinhood's 1 July announcement says they are not available in the US or to US persons, with further limits in Canada, the UK, Switzerland and the UAE.

Two details trip people up.

Backing is a claim, and lending is permitted. Robinhood says each token is backed 1:1 by shares held in custody. The base prospectus of 25 June 2026 also lets the issuer lend those shares when a series' final terms allow it, against collateral worth at least 100%. That is permission, not evidence that any shares were lent.

Transferable does not mean redeemable. A token moves freely between wallets. Redemption is a separate path: the prospectus pays a cash amount, and an investor who is not an authorised participant can redeem directly only when set conditions are met. Our guide to tokenized stocks and real shares covers the rights in detail.

What the numbers measure, and when:

  • Trading volume of tokenized stocks on Robinhood Chain, per Bitwise, reported by CNBC on 21 October: $526M in July, $2.21B in August and $11.31B in September.
  • Cumulative Stock Token volume, reported by The Defiant on 12 October as company figures: about $15B since launch, with around 200,000 holders.

Both are activity counts. Neither tells you how many tokens are outstanding or how easily one sells near its fair price. Counts also differ by source: Crypto Briefing cited about $6.57B for Robinhood in September.

To trade Stock Tokens you need a venue. Robinhood's launch announcement lists Arcus among the exchanges reachable from Robinhood Wallet. Arcus (referral link) was built by the dYdX team, with Robinhood Crypto as an investor, and says it is unavailable in the US, Canada, the UK and other restricted places.

Memecoins on Robinhood Chain

The chain is permissionless, so anyone can launch a token. Fortune reported on 6 October that about 26,000 new tokens a day appeared in September, according to Dune, and nearly 45,000 on 8 September. Most reached little or no volume and are worth almost nothing today.

The same article cites CryptoQuant: daily volume in memecoin and stock-token pairs rose from near zero in July to $443M in early September, then fell 96%. CryptoQuant's Julio Moreno told Fortune most of these assets will "trend to zero."

That 96% covers pairs between memecoins and stock tokens, not every trade on the chain. Pair volume also says nothing about whether you can exit a position.

A Robinhood name guarantees nothing

On 23 July, CEO Vlad Tenev's X account was hacked and used to promote Vladhood ($VLAD) as the "official Robinhood chain mascot," with a false claim that it would be listed in the Robinhood app, CoinDesk reported. Robinhood confirmed the compromise. Reuters later reported that Tenev said a fraudster had socially engineered X customer support to get in.

The chain's block explorer had already labelled the token a potential scam, according to The Block. If a post from the CEO's own account can be fake, a ticker or a logo is not proof of anything.

How to spot a fake Robinhood token

  1. Gas. If a site asks you to buy a "Robinhood Chain token" to pay fees, leave. Gas is ETH.
  2. Stock Tokens. Compare the contract address with Robinhood's token contracts page. Robinhood says a token with the same name or ticker at a different address is not a Robinhood Stock Token.
  3. Claims. No Robinhood Chain token or airdrop has been announced, so treat any "claim" page, DM or reply as a scam until docs.robinhood.com says otherwise.
  4. Memecoins. Check who holds the supply, how much liquidity there is and who deployed the contract before you touch anything. GMGN (referral link) supports Robinhood Chain and, per its own guide, shows an audit and holder structure for new tokens. It is a third-party tool with no tie to Robinhood. Our memecoin platform comparison lists alternatives.
  5. Wallet. Use a small test amount and avoid signing approvals on sites you reached through a link in a post.
